I was taught electrical engineering and
physics by two of the most brilliant teachers
of the XXth century:
Professor Károly Simonyi at Budapest
University of Technology (electromagnetism,
electron physics, history of physics) and
Professor György Marx at Eötvös
Lóránd University (classical
& quantum mechanics). It was Professor
József Bakos (KFKI and BUT) who aroused
my interest in laser physics. Last but not
least, Professor Arnold Schmidt directed
my attention to the most exciting frontiers
of quantum electronics. Recognizing highly
promising research directions and creating
ideal conditions for innovative scientific
work in his laboratories at Vienna University
of Technology, he had a very profound influence
on my scientific career.
