The Laboratory for Extreme Photonics (LEX) officially starts operation

team — The Laboratory for Extreme Photonics (LEX) has officially begun operations. The President of Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU), Prof. Bernd Huber, Garching’s major, Hannelore Gabor and the Director of LEX, Prof. Ferenc Krausz, opened the research centre in front of around 100 guests on 29 October 2012. Bernd Huber was especially pleased about the fact that LEX further strengthens the laser science of LMU at campus Garching. »We would like to develop the next generation of laser technology here«, Ferenc Krausz underlined. »With the new light sources we are going to develop medical applications, such as particle acceleration to diagnose and treat diseases incurable today. We would also like to dive yet deeper into the microcosm and explore it with very strong ultrashort light flashes, which we will be able to generate at LEX for the fist time.«
